Kick Off Bike Rally - 10AM - 11:30AM

Dress your bike to impress and join us for a bike rally through Old Town and ending at Old Town Glassworks/Old Town Bikeworks. Kids will get the opportunity to join together and decorate their bikes, and then bike around Old Town and then join together at Old Town Glassworks for awards. Open to kids and adults alike! In partnership with Old Town Bikeworks and Latham Island Neighbourhood Association

Come see beautiful and strange works of art made by local Yellowknifers that have been created and upcycled from trash. Vote for your favorites.

🚩Cultural Crossroads Family Zone 

 

11:00 am : Inuit Qullik lighting Ceremony. Rassi Nashalik will light the qulliq, a traditional Inuit Women stone lamp. She will share the historical context and importance of this traditional demonstration.

 

11:30 am : Throat singing. Tanya Snow and Anna Seagrave will perform traditional Inuit throat singing. They will demonstrate nature-inspired songs with historical context.

 

12 pm : Arctic sports. Danika Taylor will be demonstrating traditional arctic sports such as the high kick and musk ox push.

 

1 pm : Inuit games, with Gerri Sharpe

How about games that passed the time, when there were no TVs or cell phones ? Fun games of competition, meant to increase speed, accuracy and to teach patience. Most of all, just plain fun!

 

2 pm : Storytelling, with Miranda Currie

Northern indigenous author Miranda Currie will be reading her book Anna Barters with a Beaver as well as orating animal legends using interesting artifacts and props.

 

3 pm : NWT Pipe Band

 

3:15 pm : Kids yoga, with Taiga Yoga

 

4 pm : Dance Party, with DJ Sami

 

11:30 am - 1 pm : Tongue-twister challenge, with Aminata Konaté, at Présence Francophone Editions’ table.

 

12 pm - 5 pm Sea Bounce : Free bounce! Bouncy Castle! “Jump with the jellyfish and bounce with the blowfish. Explore the underworld adventure of the Sea Bounce but watch out for the octopus.” kingofthekastle.ca

 

12 pm - 5 pm Colouring Contest  :  For kids of all ages! This year's colouring contest will be happening in person at the kids zone of the festival. The deadline to come to join us and colour is Sunday, August 1st at 3pm, and the winner will be announced and contacted later that day. Please have all submissions to the kids zone no later than 3pm on August 1st.  Happy colouring!:)

 

12 pm - 5 pm Magician :

Balloon artist/magician Terry Brookes will be doing balloon sculpting with a touch of magic for mystery !

 

12 pm - 5 pm Face painting, with Lorie-Anne Danielson and Andrea Brown.

Creative designs and fun faces … that’s what we do. We are on a mission to bring sunshine and laughter everywhere we go, professionally face painting everyone!!  5 to 10 $.

 

12 pm - 4 pm Kids songs - Music from around the world

A blend of songs will play in between workshops and live musical events, from the Putumayo Kids music albums, who contribute to : “Introducing children to other cultures through music that entertains, educates and inspires curiosity about the world !"
